Xinhua Seoul, August 15 (reporter Lu Ruigeng Xue Peng) Korean President moon Jae in 15 said that the government supported the Korean Court (Supreme Court) to the World War II to impose a claim for compensation for South Korea, the decision to compensate the same time, and the door to the Japanese government to negotiate the door has always been open. On the day of attending the “restoration Festival” ceremony in Seoul,
said that the ROK recognized the validity of the Korea Japan claims agreement signed by the government of Korea and Japan in 1965, but also believed that the right to claim compensation did not disappear. The government respects the judicial decision made by the Korean court and is ready to have a dialogue with Japan at any time. It is believed that the joint efforts of South Korea and Japan to respect individual human rights can build a bridge between national friendship and future cooperation between the two countries. In October 2018, the Korean court sentenced Japan’s Nippon Steel Sumikin Corporation to compensate four South Korean victims who were forcibly recruited as laborers during World War II, each of whom won 100 million. It held that the agreement signed by South Korea and Japan when the normalization of diplomatic relations was restored in 1965 did not hinder individual claim rights. The move triggered a strong reaction from the Japanese government. The contradiction between South Korea and Japan over forced labor recruitment has since continued to ferment, leading to increased tension between the two countries. On August 15, 1945, the Korean Peninsula was liberated from Japanese colonial rule. South Korea calls this day “recovery day” and holds commemorative activities every year.
