Moscow, August 14 (Xinhua) the Russian General Prosecutor’s office issued a statement on the 14th, saying that 32 Russian citizens arrested in Belarus recently have returned home, while another Russian citizen with Belarusian nationality remains in the territory of Belarus. In the early morning of the same day, 33 Russian armed personnel who attempted to sabotage the presidential election in Belarus on August 9 were arrested in the suburbs of Minsk, the capital of Belarus, and in the southern region of Belarus. They belonged to a foreign private military company named Wagner. The Russian President’s press secretary, Peskov, said on July 31 that these personnel were affiliated with private security companies and planned to travel through Belarus to a third country, which had nothing to do with the white side’s affairs. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Zakharova said on August 8 that the incident was instigated by a third party. On August 7, President Lukashenko of Belarus held a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 7. The two sides discussed the issue of the arrest of these Russians in Belarus. The leaders of the two countries said that the two sides will resolve the issue in the spirit of cooperation and mutual understanding between the two countries.
