Russian Foreign Ministry: US attempt to resume UN sanctions against Iran will not succeed

On August 20 local time, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Zakharova said at a regular news conference that Russia believed that the United States’ attempt to restore the United Nations sanctions against Iran was very reckless, and this proposal would eventually fail. Zakharova pointed out that there is no legal basis for the U.S. initiative to resume the UN Security Council’s resolution on sanctions against Iran, which has been cancelled after the signing of the joint comprehensive action plan (i.e. the Iran nuclear agreement) to coordinate the settlement of Iran’s nuclear program in 2015, and the U.S. proposal is doomed to failure. Russia condemns the United States’ attempts to continue to destroy the Iran nuclear agreement and the UN Security Council resolution 2231. Such actions taken by the United States have deeply worried Russia. The Russian side believes that the US side’s move is very reckless and may lead to a crisis and even serious consequences in the Security Council. (head station reporter Wang Xiaoxue)
