Pearl Harbor Naval base, located in the southernmost coastal area of Oahu Island, is 13 kilometers away from Honolulu, the capital of Hawaii. After long-term construction, it has become the largest forward naval base of the US military in the Pacific region. The base, with its unique geographical location and complete supporting facilities, is the base of the US Navy’s Pacific Fleet. In 1908, the U.S. Congress passed a bill to designate Pearl Harbor as the U.S. naval base. In 1933, after Japan withdrew from the League of nations, in order to deal with the rapidly rising Japanese Navy and curb its expansion in the Pacific Ocean, the US Navy actively began to expand its armaments. In 1941, Roosevelt ordered the Pacific Fleet to be transferred to Hawaii and stationed at Pearl Harbor. On December 7, 1941, the Japanese Navy raided Pearl Harbor and the Pacific War broke out. The Japanese army attacked Pearl Harbor with more than 350 carrier based aircraft in two waves, causing serious losses to the US Navy’s Pacific Fleet. Eighteen ships of various types, including all eight battleships, were sunk or damaged to varying degrees. More than 180 fighter planes were damaged and more than 3500 casualties were injured. However, pearl harbor is a shallow water port. In addition to the strong maintenance, support and support capabilities of the U.S. Army, all eight main battleships except the “Arizona” were salvaged. In less than four months, three of them have recovered their combat effectiveness. In August 1942, the new Pacific Fleet headquarters building was completed, and Pearl Harbor Naval base became the command center of the Pacific battlefield. At the same time, the comprehensive support capacity here has been greatly improved. The U.S. aircraft carrier “York City” was seriously damaged after the coral sea battle and was expected to be repaired for three months. Relying on the capability of repairing ships in Pearl Harbor base, the emergency repair only takes 3 days, the construction period is greatly advanced, and the naval battle on Midway Island is successfully caught up. Today, after long-term construction, expansion and reconstruction, Pearl Harbor has become a modern naval base with perfect facilities and advanced equipment. The U.S. Pacific Fleet Command, as well as the command of the submarine, aviation, logistics, and marine research systems of the Pacific Fleet, are located here. The base has not only docks, supply centers, ammunition depots, fuel depots and large dry docks for various types of ships, but also repair workshops for repairing various types of warships and their weapons and equipment, as well as more than 8500 sets of houses and various facilities for shipmen. At present, the port has more than 40 ships as its home port. There are also a large number of naval aviation units, Marine Corps and logistics support forces. There are also two senior sea schools, two junior sea schools and a submarine training center, with a total of nearly 45000 people. According to foreign media reports, the U.S. military has built a joint naval and air force base in Pearl Harbor. As the main U.S. military force in India and the Pacific Ocean, the Pacific Fleet stationed here covers most of the Pacific Ocean and Indian Ocean. It has the third and seventh fleet of the US Navy under its jurisdiction, and has six aircraft carrier formation strike groups. The base also deployed the “Ali Burke” class destroyer, “Ticonderoga” class cruiser and sea-based X-band radar. Since 2010, F-22 Raptor fighters have also been deployed at Hickam air force base. < p > < p > as the link between the US military base in the Western Pacific and the US military base on the west coast, Pearl Harbor Naval base is not only a strategic rear to support US forces in the Asia Pacific region, but also a defense outpost in the United States.
