Indian defense minister rajnat Singh announced on August 9 that the Ministry of defense will gradually impose an import embargo on 101 military products in the next four years to promote the localization of defense industry.
Singh said that Prime Minister modi called for the establishment of an India based on the five pillars of economy, infrastructure, system, population and demand, and announced a special economic plan called “atamnirbhar Bharat”.
Singh wrote on his personal social account: “it is planned to gradually implement the import embargo in phases from 2020 to 2024 Our aim is to make India’s defense industry aware of the expected needs of the armed forces in order to better prepare for the goal of localization. ”
in addition, after the embargo on certain imported products, the government is expected to provide nearly 4 billion rupees of contracts to Indian domestic industries in the next six to seven years.
Singh said that the 101 banned products are not only simple parts, but also some high-tech weapon systems, such as assault rifles, frigates, sonar systems, transport planes and radars.
